Should children really be oly lifting? Why can't kids be kids and just run around, play, ride their bikes, etc.? Why the need to have them hurling around weights?sigifrith007 wrote:fuck PVC. I like it. I had a few 7-9 year olds tonight in class. they all lifted on a 10kg bar, with real, metal weights on the bar. Ive coached OL since 1995, had my first kid to qualify for a national event in 1996. never used PVC. And yes, I coach the young kids. Dane is 5 years old. He doesnt use PVC. So yes, fuck PVC. I have an 11 year old girl that cleans 60kg. Who needs PVC? What adult needs something lighter than a 5-6 year old. Fuck PVC. Home Depot will get no business from me. At least on the PVC thing... I like their flower selection.

This is a couple days late on the thread, but gawt dayum those are impressive lifts, sig. How did you train the press back then?sigifrith007 wrote:I, in fact, have push pressed 200kg. No video but witnesses. Video exists of me push pressing 182.5kg for 3 reps. I could easily train for a month, and match any MFers feat with 40kg. those with the 40kg "achievement" could train a lifetime and not match my 200kg. Get the fuck out of here. I respect anyone, for any difficult feat of strength or endurance. But that is over the top. to equate something special with something rather mundane is, well, not cool.

I don't think that would've yielded such impressive lifts. I think that's how your average @Fer trains that modal domain, hence why their presses are about 1/2 of their body weight. The Bastard Son of the Shafman wrote:How the fuck do you think? Wait a minute, I thought these fucktards developed Olympians and world champions? Now they use the “cunts” as their measure of progress. Every day these fucktards think of another way to avoid admitting that they can’t develop anything but a bunch of bitch ass pvc lifting fucktards who can't hack it in anything but butterfly fucking a pullup bar.For the vast majority of CrossFitters, there is no CrossFit season or championship… The lack of an end goal, a tournament or fight or championship or season means that the the “storm” or “girls” WODs are the measure of progress… Thus the benchmark WODs become the tournament, the fight, the championship, the end goal of training.

Re: The couch thread
Something just occurred to me.
If someone were to do "Grace" and double the weight to 270lbs, he would have to do all 30 reps in 2 minutes in order to match the power output of the best guys doing the standard version. 30 C&J with 270lbs in two minutes. And with that, he'd only be as "fit" as the guy doing the standard one, though I guess with a slightly more broad time domain.
That's fucktarded.

"Fucktard" is being way overused lately. Mix it up a little. Keep it fresh. Try something like "swine choad." It's got much more pop to it. If someone said to me "hey, fucktard," I'd say "hey, penis breath," but if someone said to me "hey, swine choad," I'd shove a phillips-head screwdriver in their ear and twist. Mix it up is all I'm saying.

let's get this straight...you're not defending crossfit's brostasically stupid way of measuring "work"... you're just defending their naming conventions?

I'll defend it. The measures make sense to me. But here's what they should really do.Charismatic megafauna wrote:nafod wrote:Then he wouldn't be doing GracePatrick Donnelly wrote:If someone were to do "Grace" and double the weight to 270lbs,..

1. Pick an exercise. Say the Clean and Jerk
2. Pick a time interval for the exercise. Anywhere from 5 seconds (1 rep) to 5 minutes (lots of reps)
3. Let the exercisee pick a weight.
4. Count how many reps were done in the interval
5. Figure out how many BTUs were burned which would depend on number of reps, weight, and a few other things. Goal is to max the energy burned, which also maxes the average power output over the interval. The gamesmanship is in picking the weight. Too heavy and you get too few reps (Poddle's 270 LB Grace). Too light, and you're not doing any work.
Don’t believe everything you think.

Re: The couch thread
Nafod gave me a great idea. Put an @ssfitter in a giant calorimeter stuff in full of oxygen an touch it off. This is the best way to determine their work capacity.

Find me an honest to god @fitter who can C&J 270lbs. If she exists I want to see if she's hot.
Re: The couch thread
I would say Josh Everett, but, as we all know... He's not a CrossFitter.WildGorillaMan wrote:Find me an honest to god @fitter who can C&J 270lbs. If she exists I want to see if she's hot.
(It would be cool, however, to see him do a double-weight Grace. Probably one of very few in the entire CF community who could complete it, regardless of time.)
Re: The couch thread
Hey, Pood, nice vid of you doing a zercher dead. Care to tell me what the fuck is the point of zercher deadlifting if you're picking the weight up from your knees?
And why the fuck do you have a vid of yourself putting on Vibrams? Bandwidth doesn't mean shit to people any more. They'll post anything.

Kraj,
What's wrong with the Zercher squats? Starting each rep with a pause from the lower thigh is a perfectly legitimate way of doing them. While I do think that I let my hips rise rather fast, that's not such a terrible thing seeing as how I'm using them primarily as a deadlift assistance movement. 3x130kg isn't an amazing set, but it's a shitload more than I could do a few months ago and I'm proud of it.
The video of the Vibrams was for a demonstration on a blog post of mine about the shoes. I've already gotten one guy email me to thank me for the info, so it was not a worthless video.
Piss off, fuckpuddle.
