Re: The couch thread
If jay Assman lurks here, I think he should know that there was a "gang" called the Strong Island Boys, or simply SIB, in the early to mid 90's. They were a bunch of wigger wannabe douches from the suburbs who wanted to be like "Boyz in the Hood". That's what you named your "gym" after you asshat.

He does lurk, it was in the PM thread.
And who is to say he is not one of those wiggers?

The fact that Jay Assman is still overhead squatting Christmas trees to this day means your bro = FAIL.

This nutrition crap gets funnier and funnier when all the previously Robb Wolf fans (and fans of Paleo) are now required by the jackboots to endorse da zone. The CF community is seriously deluded if it thinks that nutrition programs developed from many years of evidence based peer reviewed science for professional athletes competing at an international level are somehow inadequate for their particular needs as elite functional fitness badasses.

"I eat strict zone, but with 97 times fat blocks".

Guess what dipshit, if you eat 50 times more fat than the good doctors says you should eat, you're not eating 40/30/30. You're eating 10/10/80 or some shit. And if the ratio isn't that important, doesn't it kind of blow the whole premise out of the water?

for realz i knew a guy in about 94-95 that was racing track, legit contender for he nationals in a couple events ...he wanted to dabble in stage racing so he decided to drop some of his excess flubber by doing the zone diet blocks and whatnot, his kcla.s were around 1300 a day. he dropped from the low 180's and meaty to the low 150's and wispy in about 8 weeks. to my recollection he never won another major track race and went on to suck in the masters in both road and track.

That sucks. Too much focus on the bodyweight side of the power/weight equation. Give me more power any day over losing several pounds of power-producing muscle.Charismatic megafauna wrote:for realz i knew a guy in about 94-95 that was racing track, legit contender for he nationals in a couple events ...he wanted to dabble in stage racing so he decided to drop some of his excess flubber by doing the zone diet blocks and whatnot, his kcla.s were around 1300 a day. he dropped from the low 180's and meaty to the low 150's and wispy in about 8 weeks. to my recollection he never won another major track race and went on to suck in the masters in both road and track.
The funny thing is that he could have done just fine in the vast majority of stage races by simply adding in more road volume to his training. Plenty of pros in Europe moved from track to to road and are winning races. And if he had visions of winning major stage races that involve a ton of climbing, those races are won as much by genetics as anything.

Agreed. Also, her technique is nothing that a $1000 rowing cert won't fix! Too bad the L1 trainer at her gym has no idea what proper rowing technique looks like or they could fix it - unless fatty here is in the 20% slop realm of elite @fitters?sanchezero wrote:WildGorillaMan wrote:Jesus H Gorilla Fuck, who taught her to row like this?

it's a harsh toke for the visible ab crowd...sometimes being a soft 12-15% = way better performance than a lean as fuck 10%. the only time i saw BF lower than 10% i was weak and slow and hated training.Alfred_E._Neuman wrote:That sucks. the larger lesson here though is, "fuck stage racing. do stuff you're good at." trying to be good at everything = the suck...
see I kept the thread on target.

T-200 posted a great quote from Anthony Roberts about "coaches" at T-bag over on the Mentzer thread.
This one stuck out:
This one stuck out:
Couch, your throughts? You’re not a coach if you “train” people who aren’t training for anything. That’s called being a “personal trainer” – say it with me…PER-SON-AL-TR-AIN-ER

Jeff Martin is a fuck. Dude seems like some kind of weird ass Mormon cult leader or something. If I wanted my kids to be around some scary as hell creep that like to be around kids, we'd start going back to Saturday mass.Yes I Have Balls wrote:I think a whole thread of mine got pulled one time not long ago where I was seriously wondering where all the homegrown elite @fitters were? Where were the 23 year olds that had been doing @fit at "elite" levels for 3-4 years and why weren't they competing in the games? All the top places in the gaymes had outside strength backgrounds, competed at a D1 college level, etc.protobuilder wrote:The "empirical proof" of this is found in the LACK of cultfitters in 2009-10 who were present in 2003-04. Additional proof is the LACK of improved numbers. If you look at the "empirical data," you find nothing but a continuing-replaceable slew of novices and beginners. You'd think the Cultfitters from 2003 would be elite Olympians, or at least Elite GAYMES competitors. So much for the "longevity" axis, eh Couch?
The one consistent answer I got was "Well, what about Khalista Pappas?" Great if a 14-year old girl is elite in your sport, you better be in a pool or on the fucking pommel horse - NOT performing DL's, running hills and doing power cleans. She's more of an anomaly than anything else.
The other asshole who supposedly is in the 'elite' pipeline is dickface CF Kid's super-apologist's son Connor Martin, who among other things apparently is a black belt of some kind. Well, Connor, where are ya? 2009? Didn't qualify - too bad son. 2008 you ask? Surely he murdered it that year as there was no qualification needed and he has been tactically-@fitting since birth? Nope 116th place.
But, since Crossfit "Prides itself in domination of other athletes" I guess all is well - as long as the money keeps rolling in.
Fucking @fit kids pisses me off worse than the metrosexual/cougar version that the adults buy into. I remember seeing a video a while back where he said his kids were so awesome because they went trick-or-treating, but came home and threw away the candy because they knew sugar was bad. Those kids are going to be tomorrow's mall shooters and college campus snipers.
For fuck's sake, give the fucking kid a KitKat, it's Halloween, asshole.

Enter the Zone talked about swimmers and some other athletes and that there was a legit study done on them, but that study has never, in my recollection, surfaced.

Re: The couch thread
I met the Martins back in '04. They seemed OK to me, but then 5 years of water have passed under that bridge. At the time, they were letting Connor train with full-fledged @fit routines. He was running cross country and playing soccer. Guess it worked for him back then; don't know about now. I always figured they were more into Krav Maga than @fit anyway.
Maybe you know better than I.

The zone diet and athletic performance.
The acute 1-week effects of the Zone diet on body composition, blood lipid levels, and performance in recreational endurance athletes.
There was also a rebuttal to that first one by Sears, but there's no abstract listed. Probably because it's Sears crying that the real scientists were mean to his diet.
