Re: The couch thread
If I have to hear one more limp-dicked assface mention the Spartans, I'm going to flip. The creator of 300 probably fell into depression and blew his brains out all over a motel room when he realized the evil he had unleashed onto the world. Ever since that fuckin' movie, every wannabe-badass dicklicker invokes the Spartans as some kind of masculine ideal. The fuckers aren't around today, so they must not have been that great of warriors. They also loved spending time with each other in the wilderness, which is gayer than a Gucci purse full of dicks.

LOL like the Spartans actually worked out anyways. Nobody knows shit about them outside of what they "learned" from the movie 300, but everyone tries to act like they are training to be spartans or some stupid shit like that.WildGorillaMan wrote:Is this shit for realz?

How about training to be something like a powerlifter, bodybuilder, oly-lifter, or something else that you could actually compete in?

Because it's so much easier to play pretend rather than train for something where you actually have to perform in a consistent manner to be deemed successful.Fish wrote:LOL like the Spartans actually worked out anyways. HI-larious.
@F is hosting Barry Sears, the Zone-master who doesn't practice what he preaches, for a FREE seminar.
@F is making money selling/repackaging his stuff, then they get him to come in and do it for free. Sears is either really generous or really dumb...

If I were Sears and I wanted in on the certification $$$, I would give certs away for the first few months and use strong Google Fu to make sure a buzz got started. Make the Zone Cert seem mandatory to new recruits and to the generally gullible, then start charging whatever seems reasonable in contrast with the other @F certs.

Maybe they should just take puke samples.Resident Quack wrote:Interesting info on the Gaymes:
Competitors had to submit their urine after the first event, getting all day to submit it once the first event was completed. No word as to whether or not they actually had someone observing the piss go in the cup...I doubt it though.
This is extremely interesting/suspicious considering that Khalipa was helped off the run course towards the finish into the medical tent--this should be an automatic DQ like in any other sport--then allowed to go back to the race, then fighting his way back up to 5th place?!? Let me guess, he submitted his urine right after the run, then took some "supplements" to help him "recover".![]()
In the video I posted previously, there was mention that many athletes were "too dehydrated" to produce urine samples for drug testing. I'm sure that would be an automatic DQ anywhere else where drug testing was legit.
Cramping on the first event was also explained pretty well. I guess the @F method for trying to pee clean in a drug test is to take lots of diuretics. Doesn't work very well for a long hot run as the first event.

Maybe they should make a thread over there about how much they hate IGX. Not sure we could give them nearly as much to make fun of though.

This little diary of a CrossFitter is pretty god damn sad and pathetic, but also hilarious in its weak attempts at being stern and hardcore.

PUSSY......here's a question that's been bugging me about the IGX hate: why do they call CrossFit "@fit"? Is it supposed to be derogatory? Are you guys offended by it? Doesn't make any sense to me. I'd sign up and ask, but I don't really want to.

Re: The couch thread
It took me a while to learn what the whole "@fit" thing was about too. Someone explained it to me as the "@" looking sort of like an asshole, so it's a shorthand way of saying "AssFit." Personally, I'm not a big fan of that one. It's not that clever, and as you pointed out, it doesn't even make a good insult if you don't get what it means.I've been reading that lately actually (in fact, it's how I came across this thread) and I've got to say with the pictures they post up a lot of people in the CrossFit community really do make it easy. The banner at the games about dominating other athletes while the reporting on how the arm wrestling went has been conspicuous in its absence, for example.
Most of the lifters on other forums I've seen that dislike it just don't like the Kool Aid mentality. I don't like it a whole lot, but I'm interested enough in what CF has to offer that I can get round it without it bothering me too much.

Oh, and this might come across a little - or a lot - *****y, but I don't really care. It was most entertaining when I read the blog of someone (no need to name names, not that *****y) on there who always criticises stupid "@fit" programming for not producing strong people. Well he was squatting under 300 lbs for singles, and missing reps. Well maybe you guys are too mature to find that funny, but I did.
I'm going to once again be an arrogant ass (my apologies to the members of IGx) and assume you're talking about me with the last comment. I realize the squat is a weak point of mine, but I'm working on that. The biggest difference between me and CrossFit is that I have a couple of goals in mind, and at least some semblance of a plan on how to reach those goals. I'm not just wildly thrashing about, hoping to improve my times in Cindy, Nancy, and Shaquita. That difference is the thing I criticize more, not the lack of strength training. With my own training, it's a trial and error experiment for sure, with most error right now since I've only been under the bar for two or three years (most of that being entirely wasted time), but I'll get there. Hell, if I had followed the CrossFit.com workouts for two years, I may very well have become far stronger than I am right now, but I wouldn't have learned as much.
Don't be afraid to call me out by name.

It is an interesting series of responses because the bulk of the people offended join the forum in 2009 or 2008 with two in 2007. I can't remember exactly when Gary and I gave the workshop, but I think I was gunning for the trials, so 2004 or so. In that time, there has been a lot expansion, but you can also note that a lot of people have gone in other directions. I'm actually working on some stuff right now (this is not a plug for money or a ploy to make you say "can't wait," just some discernment about training stuff that actually fits reality) that has given me some insights about why doing all "this" (I'm a generalist. I'm ready for anything. I can do stuff you can't do better) is fine for a limited time, then you need to move to what Robb Wolf is talking about his understanding of the Black Box method.
I just found it odd that more people from the "early days" don't post there any more. It could be the whole "been there, done that," but, since I am banned and can't help these young people, I am wondering who will step up?

Re: The couch thread
My last post got me thinking.
What would happen to CrossFit if Glassman died? He'd be lucky to have his liver last another day let alone another decade. When their glorious, all-knowing "Programmer" dies, what'll happen to the program? Will someone else with the top-secret, functional, black-ops, tactical knowledge of the "methods to the madness" step up and take his place? Will the workouts simply end? If they do end, will most CrossFitters just go back to being sedentary?
This is, of course, assuming that CrossFit Inc. makes it through any lawsuits and outlives Glassman. Good thing they've got the RRG to handle that!

It's said that Shape holds the record for that workout at 32 rounds in 20 minutes, as Rx'd. There are rumors that Ido is vying for that title, though.Resident Quack wrote:@ = The workout that must not be named...

Dan, people who stick around for long enough learn that there's more out there in the world of health and fitness than just CrossFit. Much more. Then they leave.

ie.
"I don't think it has anything to do with "fear" or "lack of knowledge" in regards to strength coaches or olympic lifters. I think it has a little to do with the ego of the crossfit community. Sometimes we tend to come off as if crossfit has invented the movements and workouts utilized in our programming... and I definitely think the ego has a little bit to do with it...."
"Bingo... Not to mention HSPU's against the Berlin Wall, handstands in grocery stores, OH squating children, etc."
"ventually I quit, started lifting heavy often, eating like a normal person: got stronger, better body comp, and when try a metcon or a run, it still goes just fine. Now, I've met some wonderful people through CF that I'd proud to have known. But I hate the ego and the idea that CF has somehow cracked some magical code for fitness. I hate the assumption that people who don't do CF avoid it because they can't take the pain. I hate the gibberish about "modal domains." I hate being taken in by "forging elite fitness," which is essentially a marketing campaign that disguises itself by criticizing other marketing campaigns. Most of all, I hate how damn seriously the whole thing is taken."
not exactly all the post kool aid guzzling vomit you usually find on their board. seems like there are some people that are starting to realize that @fit isn't the be all end all
