Is no season sacred from shirtlessness? It's funny how they try to pass off shirtlessness as a gimmick with a name like "lumberjack". Won't be long before we see "The IceFran Cometh" and "Fight Gone Cold".

Running shirtless in the snow is surely a tactical domain? Maybe the 'volume under the curve' protects them from frostbite?ButterCupPowerRanch wrote:????????theoverman wrote:Is no season sacred from shirtlessness? Re: The couch thread
Wait a minute, are you saying strength should precede strength endurance? that's bullshit. I never learned that in the SEALS or while boning Nickhole's tight little ass.protobuilder wrote:An excellent crosspost from Dan John's Q&A forum on Dave Draper's site:
I remember when I first was introduced to CrossFit.
I was in Iraq, and stumbled upon their website after becoming disheartened with random BB crap I was getting in magazines.
I did the Austere Environment Program and made pretty good gains. I liked it so much that I made my whole platoon do it.
I decided I wanted to get stronger, so I did Starting Strength for about a year before moving on to doing Rip's TM and now Wendler's 5/3/1. I do sprints and KBs for "cardio," "METCON," whatever.
My friends in the CF community kept telling me how unfit I was becoming.
A couple of months ago I got the opportunity to work out at a CF affiliate for free while I was on TDY with the Army. I knew the guy running it, and I don't like lifting in a Globo Gym environment. He kept on saying that I should get on his programming to get back to my old level of "fitness." I said I wasn't interested. He insisted. So we started with the CFT...
I had the highest total ever in his box.
He had me do some "metcons." Every time, I had either the fastest or second fastest time. He kept trying to find a way that I was inferior to his athletes. Every time he failed.
It was as if I had told him everything he believed in was a lie. That is why CF has become a joke to me. All of their braggart claims of elitism are inane. It is like a religion to these people. The CF fundamentals are dogma, the science infallible, and their definition of fitness the true gospel. They disdainfully look down on those who train for "specificity." I guess being slightly better than average at a bunch of things is better than being an Olympic medalist in one thing. Whatever.
After all of the reasoning back and forth with my friend I finally said this to him:
"I am better than all of your gym at doing CF, yet I don't do CF. What does that say about CF?"
I am still waiting for an answer.
This whole thing reminds me of when the Gracies and MMA first started getting attention. All the TMA people swore up and down they had the goods, but no one could produce no one could compete.

Anyone in or around CF who HAS produced a stand out athlete used nothing resembling .cumShafpocalypse Now wrote:OVERMAN! Nice first post.
It's been pointed out repeatedly in this thread that
-XF has ALWAYS been about appearance first, performance second.
-XF has never done what it was supposed to do.
I will say that the good XFer are, if not injured, in very good condition, and that the group support is excellent, and that the intensity of the workouts (intensity of effort) is high, and the trim is often delish.
However, except for Starrett and his crowing over some fucking rowers, the high level athletes aren't there.
One a month SQT/DL does not an elite athlete make.

Re: The couch thread
Found myself on Concept 2's website today and noticed this on the search results page:
Funny how they picked that one.http://www.concept2.com/us/company/search.asp?
Enter what you want to search for in the box below. All searches are case insensitive, so searching for indoor rower is the same as searching for Indoor Rower. Search for an exact phrase by putting it in quotation marks. Put a minus sign in front of words or phrases you want to exclude. Searching for "rowing workouts" -crossfit, for example, will return all pages which mention the phrase "rowing workouts" and do not include the word "CrossFit".
I liked his second post more than his first. Go figure.WildGorillaMan wrote:Great first post, weak second post.

Re: The couch thread
Here's something fun from the forum:
Impaired Vision after WOD
I have been CFing for a few years. I have on occasion had blurred vision after a Wod. Most of the time it is an 1 hr to 1.5 hrs after the wod. It usually lasts 40 min to 1 hr. The workout is usually very heavy and taxing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Matt

intraabdominal...intracranial...It's all good when you are testing the limits of human performance every day, you do what it takes, then you do some more. That is the way of the @ssfitter. Can't stand the heat, get out of the box.

Seriously, what's more important, your sense of sight or being able to stake a claim as being one of America's most Elite non-competing athletes?Anon wrote:intraabdominal...intracranial...It's all good when you are testing the limits of human performance every day, you do what it takes, then you do some more.
