I can smell from here, you wouldn't know a framing hammer from a shingle ripper, ya soft cunt.

Even the homeless guy at the gas station cleaning windshields with yesterday's newspaper contributes more to society than you. Please speak to me when you've actually done something worthwhile in your life, hillbilly fuckwad.

Do you guys even read each other's responses or do you have a general idea of what you are going to say in "response" in advance?

Terry,

I used to but he's not funny anymore.

I do take hillbilly as a compliment and I'm damn proud to have built more houses than our pimply friend will live in over the course of his real and imagined lives.

Axly..now that I think it..Hillbilly to the Beltway and Back, a bad dog's trip. would make a great title for my Bio.

Leave it to you clowns to be proud of being white trash. Personally, I come from some of Europe's finest breeding stock. Rugged men and bosomy women who loved, laughed, worked and fought; all in the most noble of ways. That's something to be proud of. Not being a coon-skinnin', squirrel-eatin', backwoods cousin-fucker.

I never got baptized and never had a word said to me about religion, despite both my parents being (in theory, at least) Christians - by the time the concepts start coming at from outside, I had developed some ability to reason for myself and lacked any belief in the supernatural. So apparently that's how you raise an atheist, you leave 'em the fuck alone. Kinda my plan, anyway. If I accidentally procreate, the kid gets to do as he or she wants, as long as it doesn't trend toward the crazier ends of the various cults.

I do see two brands of atheist out there - those who've never believed and those who used to be religious. The latter tend to be the angrier ones in my experience, the type who read Hitchens and Dawkins and fervently care that most human beings are deluding themselves. I just don't give a shit.

As to the long ago argument about responsibility - I'd argue that living a moral and ethical life due to one's own reasoning and choice rather than because Big Daddy says no points to atheists as the responsible party.

when you say "breeding stock" is that a polite way of highlighting your people's affinity for getting raped by every invading army since Alexander the Great?

I got sent to bible summer camp for a few years running. When I started walking out of Sunday school after 10 minutes a few Sundays in a row at 8 years old I didn't have to go anymore. As far as I know I'm not a psychopath. I give to charity, I love my family, and I've always been drawn to jobs that involve helping people. Thank god for those ten minutes of Sunday school or I might be an ax murderer.

Angry atheists who want to tell everybody that they are certain there is "nothing out there" are as annoying as the most fundamentalist of religious freaks.

Both groups deserve each other.

Breedin' stock, huh? Tell us more their young fascist about how pure your sheeple are!

And for the record, there is nothing noble about war. The nobility is in the individual you jacktard and it is apparent you have none even if your forebears may have had.

As a serious contribution, I have no problem believing that it's perfectly possible to live a very moral life without religion.

The question can still be asked, that if there is no god, and this life is all there is, then what is the point in living a moral one, but it seems like the right thing to do, and the world seems to be better when people act in a moral way.

Quite frankly, 90% of jews I know are self centered scum. The only jews I know who really epitomize a truly moral life, (spending the majority of their time helping others, contributing as much of their money as they can to charity, and just being all round good person), are certain Rabbis that I know.

Most other jews in this community, I wouldn't give the time of day to. In general, considering the jewish communities I've spent time in, morality seems to increase with religiosity of the community in general, up to a certain point, at which point it peaks, and then becomes radical to the point of spitting on young girls etc.

The only problem I have with the whole no god thing, and no religion, is finding it difficult to work out what the point to everything is. To be honest though, even within Judaism, understanding what the point of it all is, and what your role in the world is from the perspective of Judaism, really takes a lifetime of dedicated study to even scrape the surface.

BD: What if you're wrong? Then what?

If I am wrong and I should have embraced Christ as my savior instead of my current view that life is sacred and finite and I am trying to do the best I can by my fellow man, then we will see. According to a number of folks, my family included, I will either A) Burn in Hell OR B) Spend time in Purgatory until I see the light.

I simply do not care and cannot see the sense in being caught in details that fluctuate according different cultures. "But which is RIGHT?!" I do not know and in all honesty cannot make a judgement call on unsubstantiated cultural gnosis. I can, however, decide to live a full and happy life while trying to be a better man than I was the day before. If there is a God that is caught up on details then I can only offer up apologies and point to my good works. If there isn't then I lived a life of good works for the sake of doing good. I will take my chances.

Assuming you would burn in hell and they would go to heaven, how could heaven be a paradise for them knowing that a family member that they love is damned to eternal suffering?

That is a discussion from Justin L. Barrett’s new and interesting Born Believers: The Science of Children’s Religious Belief. He gives more than equal time to how to raise your child to be religious, but we’re already pretty good at that. Here are his atheism tips, noting that I am excerpting and paraphrasing:

1. Have less-than-average fluency in reasoning about minds.

2. Do not have children.

3. Stay safe.

4. Get in the habit of crediting or blaming humans for whatever you can.

5. Learn to like pseudoagents (including abstractions).

6. Take time to reflect.

7. Add to these factors indoctrination of the young against religion.

I think these ideas are from a book based on some studies which suggest the human brain is hard-wired for religious belief. The take-home point for me in this is that human minds are limited, subject to, and part of nature. God, or indeed a lack of God is a human concept created by this limited mind to contexualise its place in the universe. JMO.

This thread = A bunch of atheist mouthbreathers telling me I'm an unfunny douchebag

A) I'm not your dancing monkey. I'm not here to be funny or amuse you. Throw your oxygen-deprived kids a quarter to dance and make noises for you if you're looking for entertainment. I'm here to discuss issues, not put on a show.

B) Any discussion with some of you folks immediately devolves into name-calling and nonsense. You're incapable of actually having a point-for-point rebuttal because you (a) feel you're above it while (b) actually being too stupid to do so. If you're going to just play the "Blah, blah, blah... I can't heeear youuu!" cover-up-your-ears-and-tuck-your-dick-up-your-asshole game then don't be surprised that I call you cowards and losers. I respect guys like BeerJew who put up a good fight and bring up valid points much more than clowns like Blaid Dawg who are too stupid to bring anything of worth to the conversation.

C) If you're going to start a thread about controversial shit then be prepared to face all sides of the argument. Don't act like someone owes you the courtesy of letting you trash their belief system. Some of us have the balls to stand up for what we believe in and not let a bunch of white-trash, mouthbreathing mutts who can't trace their roots farther than they can shoot their piss stream talk shit about what we stand for. If you want to be civil then don't start threads denouncing what some people hold sacred. Otherwise, be ready for the shitstorm and come with something a little harder than your whiney-ass crying.
