The last two sentences of the Declaration are the most important ones.

The Nazi's are not a great example, fascism in general is a better. Communism is a better one still. Those were what I was referring to. Our military efforts, and the threat of military action, were critical to the death of communism. Modern communism has no life outside of universities, and even that kind is pretty mild.Blaidd Drwg wrote:Chill your Godwin.
Using the backdrop of WW2 is perfectly reasonable....plus I gave you a softball, WW2 Germany is probably one of the only times in recent memory where the crushing defeat of a country led to a wholesale rethinking of their national identity in a lasting way.
Ideas fall in an out of favor, almost never based on force or threats of force. The fact no one is ready to embrace is that ACTUAL the threat posed by wahabi nutbirds is not even a blip compared to our past conflicts. I'd put their chances at long term success right around the same as the Amish. In 50 years theses dune coons will be a tourist attraction....regardless of our World Police efforts.
Regions of the world with tons of poor people, especially oil rich regions, is in nobody's best interest long term.

Oh lord.....we should stop talking now. If you truly believe our "military efforts "played anywhere near as significant a role in the unraveling of the iron curtain...as say..their own terrible ideas...well there just not much to talk about.
The US has not dominated a significant foe militarily since ww2....our dominance is utterly economic and cultural.

I often think sometimes that places like Switzerland, France, Norway etc. chuckle at us (the US), and think "They *think* they have a powerful economy, and that they're an economic superpower, and we let them think that, but everybody over here knows the US is in-debt up to it's eyeballs with China, and the whole machine will probably collapse, right around the time we're surpassing them."
This is the new Third World, everybody. Just you wait an see.

If you really think that China or Switzerland is outpacing the US...I suggest you travel more.

Stop your Howard Zinn. Our military spending and action was absolutely a major influence on Soviet and Chicom policy and action.Blaidd Drwg wrote:Oh lord.....we should stop talking now. I'm pretty sure Nazi Germany would have eventually fallen on its own.

Stop your Reagan delusionals...,
I have no idea wtf Zinn is saying these days but my high school social studies teacher was laying out the collapse of the curtain in 1986... We may have outspent them.... That's economic might. We never went head to head with an actual power and won... And you know this.

Military spending, and the ability to afford it, has been a major factor in conflict since the dawn of recorded history. You have had your ass so thoroughly whipped on this thread you're gonna fall back on that semantic nonsense?
Dolla dolla bills yo...not shots fired. its that simple. However you chose to frame it, American spending power and culture is the greatest colonizing force since 1948. Our threats of force and fitful expressions of it have consistently fallen well short of that monster.

Boy this thread went off. Anyway.
Paris. Acceptable loss?
So if we don't use EI after we catch them, and won't actively use Human or Electronic Intell in the countries and neighborhoods where they grow like weeds, what do we do?
BTW, rule 1 at SERE school is everybody talks.
